About Me

I think I’d describe myself as a director, it is what I am best at, probably because I love it. Ever since I can remember I’ve been using visual images to tell a story. That story could be anything, from how lovely a chair is in one of our product videos, to the battle of regular people battling super heroes on “Gladiators.” It could be the story of a performance on “Stars in their Eye”s or of a big money win on any of the countless game shows I have directed. It could be a story about a heart transplant on “This Morning”. I started telling stories about me life with my friends, climbing mountains, performing in Gang Show, all shot on super 8 and edited using razor blades and sticky tape. My how things have changed.
I have been a head of department, at the BBC I was responsible for the Weakest Link in its prime our department had 200 people in it and our budget was 15m. I helped set up Foxworld UK and was creative director of Talent TV which I still part own. Now I run Pepper Rafferty with my business partner and I work with the Entertainment Master Class training for the TV industry by the TV industry.
I have extensive knowledge of UK broadcasting and programmes making. I understand how to run large creative teams. I understand how to tell stories using cameras and sound. My technical knowledge is comprehensive, I can programme code Java Script HTML CSS and I know my way around most computer systems. I combine technical knowledge with a creative mind. as a TV director I always believed that I should have a deep understanding of the tools I could use. Great painters know their brushes, how they are made and what they can do. Know one boxes painters into techie or artist, they just silently combine their knowledge and make things worth looking at.
I have seen this business from many sides of the table. Technical, creative, buyer, seller, producer and commissioner. And not forgetting viewer!
What I bring to the table is the ability to communicate this knowledge, recently I was described as an educator, it was very flattering and something that made me very proud. I can share my knowledge with you and your teams in an effective way. I will make your teams think. This business is about ideas, thinking is important, thinking effectively and productively can be taught, and I can teach!
